Background

CRHR2, a Corticotropin-Releasing Factor Receptor is a neuroregulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis and plays an important role in coordinating the endocrine, autonomic, and behavioral responses to stress and immune challenge. Mutations of the receptor reduce coping behaviors to stress and increase basal blood pressure. Three isoforms of CRHR2 are produced by alternative splicing. CRHR2 expression has been reported in various regions of the brain, as well as in placenta, umbilical vein, heart, epididymis, gastrointestinal tract, adrenal, and skeletal muscle. CRCH2alpha is the dominant isoform and is expressed widely. CRCH2beta is expressed in the hippocampus, septum, amygdala, heart, and skeletal muscle. CRHR2gamma is brain-specific. ESTs have been isolated from brain libraries.
